Many people, when diagnosed with diabetes, simply take what’s given and spend the rest of their lives wondering what went wrong.

This only makes life harder which is a pity because many people are only too happy to help.

Tip 1 – Train Those Around You As To What To Do If You Have A Hypoglycaemic Episode.

Although unlikely, it is not impossible that you could experience a “hypo” and lose conciousness. This makes it so important that you have people you can rely on and who know what to do if this happens. These people should be at home and at work. Make sure you cary a card or bracelet that identifies you as a diabetic in case you have an episode in a public place.

Tip 2 – Get Someone to Exercise With.

Exercise is so important when you have diabetes. However, maintaining momentum can be difficult on your own, particularly when it’s snowing outside! If you have an exercise partner it makes it much more difficult to back out.

Tip 3 – Enjoy Your Food, Your Way.

In these days of food “experts”, simply handing out a “healthy food guide” is fine as far as it goes, which isn’t that far. It’s very easy to list “healthy” foods, but diabetes is for life. Your medical team should come up with an eating plan tailored to your needs. Sure, you will have to have less of some things, but there are very few foods, if any, that you should never, ever have.

Tip 4 – Learn How Your Medication Works And Why It’s Important.

This is so important. So many people just take their oral medication as prescribed, but take no actual interest in the medication itself. By understanding what the medication does, it can be much easier to fine tune your blood sugar levels. Not only that, but some drugs require certain organs, for example the liver, to be tested every 2 months in the first year of taking them. If your doctor does not organise this, you can remind them.

The most important thing when it comes to adjusting to diabetes is one’s mental attitude. Try and remain cheerful and take up a hobby perhaps.

The author of this piece has had type 2 diabetic for some three years now. One of the hobbies he started was camping. Living outdoors with Swis Gear tents is great for easing stress and puting your problems behind you. Swis Gear tents are the author’s preferred choice for their build quality and design.

The cinnamon tree is native to Asia and is also found in some parts of the Middle East. It is form the bark of this tree that cinnamon is obtained. The natives of these parts of the world use cinnamon as a spice for their meals. There has arisen debate in the recent past about how cinnamon influences the stability and levels of blood sugar in humans. While some people believe that cinnamon reduces the blood sugar, others still hold that this substance has no effects on glucose. This article tries to clear the difference by pointing out some facts about the link between cinnamon and diabetes.

It is not right to assume that cinnamon does not have any influence on blood sugar merely on the bases that it is easily found. Knowing the ingredients of cinnamon and their influence on the various body processes could help us determine how helpful the substance is. Studies have been done that aimed at establishing the truth in the claims about cinnamon and diabetes and much more of these studies will help people understand better.

Cinnamon has been found to contain MHCP, an ingredient that increases the effectiveness of insulin receptors. Insulin is a chemical that helps regulate the blood sugar levels in the body. So if the insulin receptors become more effective, the process of regulating the blood sugar in the blood streams is enhanced thereby having a more stable level of blood sugar.

Additionally, cinnamon triggers the pancreas to produce more insulin. This effect is particularly important to people suffering from diabetes of type 2, whose pancreas produces insulin in such small quantities that it becomes ineffective in regulating the glucose levels. Type 1 diabetics may not benefit from this effect as their pancreas produces no insulin at all.

Cinnamon has also been found to act as insulin. Some studies show that cinnamon mimics the action of insulin in regulating blood sugar. Although not as effective as insulin itself, cinnamon does a lot to bring down sugar levels to the recommended levels.

Cinnamon has an influence on the digestion process. It reduces the rate at which one gets the urge for more food thus reducing the amount of sugar that goes into the blood streams. It also has an influence in the way fats are metabolized thus making sure that no much fat is converted into glucose.

For a long time, cinnamon has been used as a spice being added to various food type such as cakes and drinks such as tea. The primary use of cinnamon was to improve the food taste and not for any medical purpose. It is definite that many people benefited from cinnamon without ever knowing that they were benefiting. This has however changed with the discovery that cinnamon could be used to help diabetics.

Although utilization of cinnamon could be very helpful to a person suffering from diabetes, you are required to first search for a physician’s advice before going for cinnamon.
